What age can you start hockey?

We recommend starting our kids hockey classes from 2, 5 years old. Typically at this age children are able to listen to basic instructions.

How long does each session last?

Our sessions run for 45 minutes, this includes a quick water/snack break off 5min.

Question 3

Can parents participate?

Accepted Answer

For the younger age group we ask parent's/carers to join the session. However for the cheeky Monkeys group we ask parents/carers to encourage the kids to join by themselves. From Wildcat groups we ask parents/carers to stay outside the grid. We would like to encourage the kids group to be independent as much as they can be.

When are sessions cancelled?

Push Back sessions will run no matter the weather conditions, the only exceptions will be when our partner hockey club deem the grounds are unsafe to run the sessions.

Question 5

What should I bring to my first session?

There are a few things you’ll need to bring to get the most out of Push Back. Please make sure you bring the following:
Trainers/ football boots
Water bottle
Jumper, rain jacket
Sun cream and a hat (depending on the weather)
Water/snack
shin pads (ideal)
mouth guard (ideal)

Do I need to have my own hockey stick?

No need to have your own hockey stick. At Push Back we will have hockey stick available every session for kids to use.

Question 7

Do you off free trial sessions?

Accepted Answer

No, we don't offer free trials. 
Our booking policy means that if you book and your child isn't enjoying the classes after 4 sessions you can get a refund for the remainder of the term so hopefully this offers some peace of mind.

Question 8

What’s the youngest and oldest you take children?

Accepted Answer

The youngest we will take is usually 30 months. Some children develop early so if you think your child is ready then bring them down and we can the discuss it. 
The oldest children we take are 6 years old (reception). We find any older than this isn’t a challenging enough environment. We recommend Surbiton Hockey Club, our partner club, if your child over 6 years old and already in year 1!

Are the classes for both girls and boys?

Absolutely yes! We encourage both girls and boys to play hockey as it is a great team game and helps develop confidence and physical/ social development. We provide an inclusive environment with both female and male coaches.

Question 10

Will my child automatically move up to the older age group?

Accepted Answer

We don’t move the child up without your permission and it really does depend on a number of factors. Such as whether we think they’re ready for the jump? Do they want to? But we do encourage children to move up when we think they’re ready to ensure they’re being challenged and progressing (But no pressure if they/ you don’t).
